Creeds Part 1

Creeds 1: Father and Son

In this lesson we begin our eight week study of the Apostles and Nicene Creeds. We start first by unpacking where the idea of having a creed comes from, how the very idea of creeds reveals something essential to Christian faith, and how they relate to Scriptural authority in the life of the church.

Then we looked at the following two sections of the creeds dealing with the Father and Son:

God the Father

Apostles' Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:

Nicene Creed

I believe in one God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, And of all things visible and invisible:

God the Son

Apostles' Creed

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: ​

Nicene Creed

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God; Begotten of his Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, Very God of very God; Begotten, not made; Being of one substance with the Father; By whom all things were made:
